Dear Baker 5J Families,
Starting this month, we will begin the process of making class placements for the 2021/2022 school year. We give this complex process a great deal of time and thought to ensure every child is placed in a classroom environment that allows them to thrive. Through careful thought taking into consideration academic level, friendships, interests, and behavior, we strive to create balanced classroom learning communities with a range of students with strengths and talents. We also take into account social profiles with the goal of placing children with peers who have the potential to become or remain positive friends. Over the course of the summer and after formal registration in August, we will continue to adjust placements as needed.
Parents play a valuable role in this process. To help assist in placement, parents have the option this spring of filling out a student profile form to help us better understand their child’s learning styles, social needs, and concerns. This form can be found on our website under the “For Families.” As you will see, the form offers input in areas such as learning type, learning environment, skill development, and additional comments. We invite you to share your input by April 30th to help us in our work of planning classroom placements. Please return the form either by scanning it and emailing it to your building administrator. If you have specific placement concerns or would like to discuss staff options, please fill out the student profile form and then contact your building administrator directly to set up a phone call before April 30th. Please refrain from putting specific teacher requests on the student profile form.
Please know your child’s teacher(s) will be intimately involved in the placement process. If you feel confident your child’s teacher has enough information to make a solid placement, you may simply rely on his or her judgment.
Placement is an exciting opportunity to think about the possibilities of next year, and we do our utmost to create classroom communities that honor and support the learning of each child. We are extremely fortunate to have such an outstanding group of educators in each grade level; helping children grow, develop and thrive.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns that you have.
