School Report Card

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members,

In the 2016-2017 school year, Brooklyn Primary School fully implemented the Common Core State Standards. Our third-grade students took at the Smarter Balanced Assessment and showed steady improvement over last year. Our in-district pre and post assessments also showed growth in the areas of reading, writing, and math. We believe our results are due exclusively to the efforts of the dedicated staff, parents, community and individual students who work hard every day.

This year we launched a new process to start the year in kindergarten. Kindergarten students attended a two-hour small group session the first week of school, and staff worked with these small groups to gather information to help inform balanced class placements. We also are launching a developmental kindergarten program which will offer a play based curriculum while implementing kindergarten standards.

We will continue to collaborate with staff to implement high-leverage instructional strategies and ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all children. Literacy will continue to be a top priority with the goal of all students reading fluently by the end of third grade. You can help by monitoring your student’s homework, reading with your child daily, attending parent-teacher conferences, or even volunteering. We look forward to partnering with you over the coming year to make sure all of our students reach their potential!

Thank you,

Principal,
Phil Anderson
